Department of Hematology

This department deals with the treatment of all types of hematological diseases. The staff comprises many specialists for hematopoietic stem cell transplantation and chemotherapy of leukemias, lymphomas, myelodysplastic syndrome and myeloma. However, we are not biased toward any specialty, and provide treatment by working out treatment options together with patients. Please do not hesitate to contact the depart- ment either as an outpatient or to obtain a second opinion.

Department of Endocrinology and Metabolism
(Endocrinology Division, Diabetes and Metabolism Division)

Staff specialized in endocrine diseases such as those affecting the thyroid, parathyroid, adrenal, and pituitary glands, and in metabolic diseases such as diabetes mellitus (type 1, type 2), dyslipidemia, and gout provides the best clinical practice. When you need clinical service beyond internal medicine, such as pituitary surgery and sterility treatment, you also expect to get the best medical care from us in col- laboration with members in the related departments. For diabetes, a 1-week period of hospitalization for instruction is also offered.

Department of Respiratory Medicine

In this department, specialized treatment is performed for all acute and chronic respiratory diseases including lung cancer, diffuse lung disease, respiratory tract infection, chronic obstructive pulmonary disease (COPD), bronchial asthma, and pneumothorax. The department staff also actively engages in respiratory rehabilitation for patients with COPD and home oxygen therapy for patients with respiratory failure. Moreover, the department has a tuberculosis ward and an outpatient service to help patients quit smoking.

Department of Sleep-Respiratory Medicine

In this department, various tests are performed and treatment provided for sleep disorders, which may result from various causes ranging from respiratory system disorders (sleep apnea syndrome and upper airway resistance syndrome) to psychiatric disorders (REM sleep behavior disorder, periodic limb movement disorder, and sleep-related epilepsy).

Department of Gastroenterology
(Liver, pancreaticobiliary, and gastrointestinal divisions)

The Department of Gastroenterology comprises the Gastrointestinal Division and the Liver and Pancreati- cobiliary Division where advanced, specialized treat- ments are performed. The Gastrointestinal Division has a well established reputation: a large number of endoscopic procedures are performed daily and endoscopic submucosal dissections (ESD) are per- formed for conditions such as esophageal, gastric, or colorectal cancers. At the Liver and Pancreatico- biliary Division, high-quality diagnostic imaging cen- tering on ultrasound diagnosis is offered, specializing in the endoscopic diagnosis and treatment of the pancreaticobiliary diseases.

*At Toranomon Hospital Kajigaya, the medical treatment M B is performed in the Gastrointestinal Division.

Department of Hepatology

The Department of Hepatology has staff that is highly experienced in interferon (IFN) and nucleotide analogues treatment with; the treatments aim to cure chronic HBV infection. For chronic HCV infection, protease inhibitor and IFN + ribavirin combination therapy are administered in addition to conducting the rst clinical trials of a new oral drug with few side effects, thus offering enhanced virus elimination. For liver cancer treatment, in- tensive medical and surgical treatments are provided including radiofrequency ablation based on highly precise diagnosis.

Department of Neurology

This department is particularly committed to emergency neurological diseases such as hyperacute/acute phase stroke treatment, seizures, encephalitis, and meningitis. Stroke treatment is performed at the Stroke Center, where we cooperate with the Department of Neurosurgery and the Department of Neuro-Endovascular Therapy. Treatment is offered for a wide range of diseases, includ- ing neuromuscular diseases such as myas- thenia gravis and Guillain–Barre syndrome as well as degenerative diseases such as Parkinson’s disease and spinocerebellar degeneration.

Department of Cardiology

In this department, treatments for all types of cardiovascular diseases are provided. Major diseases treated are ischemic heart disease, cardiac insuf ciency, arrhythmia, arteriosclerosis obliterans of the lower limbs, and hypertension. This department cooperates with the cardiovascular surgery department to provide balanced treatment that incorporates the latest ndings along with immense experience.

Department of Nephrology

This department offers three pillars of treatment: (1) overall diagnostic and internal medicine treatment such as kidney biopsy and imaging for kidney diseases including kidney impairment due to chronic nephritis, diabetic nephropathy, amyloidosis, and collagen disease; (2) various types of blood puri cation treatment such as hemodialysis, peritoneal dialysis, and absorption therapy; and (3) surgical treatment for renal insuf - ciency focusing on kidney transplantation. Treatments for rheumatological and collagen diseases are also performed.

Department of Rheumatology

Treatment for rheumatic diseases such as rheumatoid arthritis and systemic lupus erythematosus is performed by both the physician and the orthopedist in the same treatment room. When hospitalization is required, patients are admitted to the Depart- ment of Nephrology when additional medical treatment is required, and are admitted to the Department of Orthopedics when additional orthopedic surgery is required.

Department of Medical Oncology

We make clinical suggestions based on the knowl- edge of cancer pharmacotherapy. In addition to chemotherapy, our job is to coordinate many possible treatment options including surgery, radiation therapy, and the holistic care for each individual patient. Experts in breast cancers, colon cancers, gastric cancers, and genitourinary cancers such as renal cancers, work as a team for all cancer patients to solve the problems, even if you have diagnosed as a relatively rare cancer. We are enthusiastic for the education of young train- ees and fellows interested in the eld of medical oncology as we always hope for the better future. Above all, to build the model of the patient-orient- ed treatments and cares is our mission.

Department of Palliative Medicine

In 2009, a Cancer Support Team comprising multidisciplinary medical specialty was initiated; this team engages in support for cancer patients receiving any medical treat- ment. The Department of Palliative Medicine was established in 2013 and is involved in team-based support activities.

Department of Infectious Diseases

This department specializes in infectious diseases. It is involved in overseeing pa- tients who attend outpatient clinics or are hospitalized because of infectious diseases. In addition, we have been consulted by other departments in the cases with fever of unknown origin, and with complicated infections that occur during the course of treatment for other diseases. We also work as key member of the infection control team for the prevention of hospital infections.

Department of Psychiatry

We treat outpatients not in special rooms for psychiatry but in clinical rooms for general practice. Similarly, hospital rooms are located in the same ward as general practice and surgical treatment, thus offering open-minded surroundings. Treatment is offered for various conditions, however, sometimes treatment in special ward for psychiatry in another hospital may be appropriate, considering the patients’ safety. The patients are recommended to come with a uent translator into Japanese language.

Toranomon Hospital Kajigaya Department of General Clinical Medicine

Our department is composed of respiratory, he- matology, metabolic and endocrine, gastrointes- tinal, and gynecological departments. It provides various specialized treatments such as sleep apnea outpatient treatment and hematopoietic stem cell transplantation, etc. General clinical medicine treatment is also offered, overseeing the treatment of re-exam and initial exam patients without specialist outpatient referral while cooperating with other departments and, depending on the disease, referring to other specialized departments.
